Next Generation Ubiquitous Networking Devices Visualized By Designers.
Next Generation Ubiquitous Networking Devices visualized by designers
Thanks to the development of ubiquitous technology, hardware is becoming smaller, thinner, and less visible than ever before. On the other hand, the volume of information we handle is expanding at an accelerated rate. In the near future, IT devices will go beyond the conventional framework of efficiency and convenience.
NEC designers have created design possibilities with near-future paradigms in mind: the world where humans and machines resonate with one another. We present devices that can respond to user’s emotional needs, and interfaces that let users freely express and manipulate information nuances, which was difficult to do with conventional technologies.
(These are conceptual models and not scheduled to be produced for the market at this time.)
KOTOHANA
Emotion Communicator
It has been our dream to create communication terminals that convey human emotions. That dream is coming very close to fruition. We have thought of the most adequate ways of exchanging emotions in daily situations. For example, if you could share your excitement with your partner through communication devices from remote places, your interaction would be enriched.
KOTOHANA is a set of two flower-shaped communication terminals. The terminal reads emotions from the voices of the users and changes into signals to be sent to each other. The emotions read by the terminal will be naturally expressed by the color of the flower.
FLASK
Fuel Cell Phone
We should not forget the concept that “technology makes beautiful artifacts.” 20th century design masters have directly expressed beauty in technology to create ultimate elegance. Technology should be used not only to make our lives convenient but also to beautify them.
FLASK maintains the convenience of regular mobile phones and enclosed ultra-high-density packaging technology and fuel cell technology to express functional beauty. This is another possibility for the future of design
AXES
Intuitive Information Terminal
We somehow have a fixed notion that a PC is operated by a keyboard and a mouse. However, a mouse is inefficient when using a search engine with several key words to narrow down the range of information. Many people have been frustrated, wishing that they could directly manipulate the PC by putting their hands into it.
AXES is a retro-future device that can control various search conditions just like tuning a radio, making it possible for users to choose from vast amounts of information. This may be the way of future PCs!
Plume
Ubiquitous pen with display
The acts of writing and drawing have been largely altered since the arrival of the computer. While the computer is certainly convenient, we have lost something important: hand writing recognition does not have the subtle sensorial experience of writing on paper with tactile pen and aromatic ink.
We used digital technology to design this tool to enjoy the beauty of writing and to rediscover the importance and wonder of taking time for contemplation.
When The feather shaped pen with hand-written information inserted into the main body with a built-in transparent EL display, the recorded information is displayed in the form of flowing ink, and the data is stored.

SALA
Media accessories
RF-ID technology will be widely used in the logistics and the retail business as the cost comes down.
On the other hand, users want individual expressions and tastes reflected in their "identity." For example, just as accessories and jewelries remind people of important memories and anniversaries, better design would give RF-ID technology added value.
SALA is an accessory with a built-in RF-ID tag. Each piece can be associated to slide shows and/or movies. When the piece is placed on the tray with a built-in display and a sensor, the images associated with the ID tag appear on the display.
