Conversation
The previous post was about the differences between a
blog and a forum. While the medium is not the message, the medium can affect the types of conversation that go on. Associate Professor Martin Henz, from the Department of Computing, wonders out loud if he can
light the fire of learning in his students, making pertinent points about
reflection:
I am encouraged by the lively discussions on the meaning of some concepts that I threw at the students. What does it mean to "invent" a language? How do we dissolve the ambiguities that arose from the statements in Assignment 02? These things will give me plenty of material to work with in the next few classes to encourage reflection. Of course the inquiries regarding the Challenge Assignments also provide plenty of encouraging signs that there is energy building up. Reflection is often enabled by unusual experiences, and the pursuit of difficult tasks and aim for perfection and beauty can provide such experiences.
Blogs magnify the potential for conversation (check out
his students' comments in response to his post). While Dr Henz's post is directed at his students and touches on the module he teaches, what he wrote has value to others... I hope!
What do you think?
